Bangladesh Issues New Guidelines for Higher Secondary Admission Quotas

The Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has officially issued new directives regarding the freedom fighter and education quotas for higher secondary class 11 admission activities. The announcement, which was formally released on August 31, establishes clear and stringent criteria for students applying through these specific quota categories across educational institutions in Bangladesh.

Under the newly outlined regulations concerning the freedom fighter quota, applicants must strictly be either the child of a certified freedom fighter or the child of a martyred freedom fighter. The directive explicitly clarifies that grandchildren—meaning both grandsons and granddaughters—of freedom fighters or martyrs are no longer eligible to apply under this specific quota category for the upcoming academic admissions.

In addition to the adjustments made to the freedom fighter provisions, the coordination committee has detailed specific eligibility parameters for the education-related quotas, designated as EQ-1 and EQ-2. For applicants seeking consideration under the EQ-1 quota, the student must be the biological child of an official officer or staff member currently employed directly within the Ministry of Education.

Furthermore, the directives provide comprehensive guidelines for the separate EQ-2 quota category. To qualify under EQ-2, the student must be the child of teachers, officers, or staff members who are actively employed across any of the 28 distinct departments or agencies operating directly under the Ministry of Education.

The scope of the EQ-2 quota also extends to include personnel working within government educational institutions and offices that fall under the administrative jurisdiction of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education. These newly minted instructions from the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee and the Ministry of Education aim to streamline the admission verification process.
