Bangladesh Government Announces Major Education Reforms and Curriculum Overhaul

The government of Bangladesh has officially initiated sweeping reforms within the national education sector, accompanied by critical curriculum updates and brand-new employment initiatives aimed at modernizing the country's academic framework. According to official announcements released by state news agency BSS, these strategic measures are designed to restructure the entire educational landscape, shifting the primary focus away from superficial metrics and toward genuine intellectual development, high moral standards, and essential human values.

Speaking on the ongoing policy shifts, Mahdi Amin elaborated that the administration is actively working to dismantle practices from the past fascist regime, where statistical appearances were manipulated through artificial floods of GPA-5 scores and automatic passing cultures without examinations. Highlighting the elimination of grace marks, Mahdi Amin confirmed that students now receive completely impartial and transparent evaluations, ensuring that they attain their genuine results without misleading the public or the educational system.

As part of the immediate academic transition, Mahdi Amin revealed that the interim period involves necessary revisions, additions, and subtractions in the textbooks scheduled for the 2027 academic year. Building upon this foundation, the 2028 academic year will witness a comprehensive and extensive reform of the entire curriculum, establishing a sustainable and groundbreaking educational framework aligned with contemporary global realities.

In practical curriculum developments for the 2027 academic year, textbooks and subjects will incorporate crucial modern themes such as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, artificial intelligence, and physical sports. Furthermore, primary and secondary educational levels are set to introduce four brand-new books and subjects, specifically featuring 'Sports and Culture', 'Learning with Happiness', and 'Technical Education' to foster a well-rounded learning environment.

To support the broader academic community and address national challenges, the administration has introduced a targeted 'One Teacher, One Tab' program designed to technologically empower educators across the country. Additionally, to combat unemployment, the government is establishing dedicated 'Employment Exchange' facilities at both the divisional and district levels to create better economic opportunities for job seekers.

Reinforcing the administration's core commitments, Mahdi Amin referenced Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, stating that the Prime Minister has clearly declared the education sector as the government's absolute top priority. In accordance with the election manifesto of the BNP, the formation of an Education Reform Commission is being treated with the utmost seriousness to restore absolute discipline and excellence throughout the educational infrastructure of Bangladesh.
