Bangladesh Court Imposes Travel Ban on Faisal Karim Masud and Five Others

A Dhaka court has imposed a strict travel ban on Faisal Karim Masud and his wife, Shaheda Parveen Samia, as authorities press forward with a comprehensive money laundering and corruption investigation. The judicial order was issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court on Monday, 31 August, responding directly to formal legal steps taken by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

According to the verified details emerging from the ongoing financial investigation, the Anti-Corruption Commission has uncovered significant irregularities linked to the couple. Investigators have identified approximately Tk 127 crore in suspicious transactions flowing directly through the bank accounts belonging to Faisal Karim Masud and Shaheda Parveen Samia, prompting the anti-graft body to seek immediate judicial intervention to prevent them from fleeing accountability.

Despite the active travel restrictions now officially in place within Bangladesh, Faisal Karim Masud is currently not within the country. Official records confirm that Faisal is presently detained inside a prison located in neighboring India. His apprehension took place earlier this year on 8 March, when operatives from the West Bengal Police and the Special Task Force (STF) successfully intercepted and arrested him near the Bongaon border area.

Furthermore, the legal dragnet cast by the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court on Monday, 31 August, extends well beyond the primary targets of the financial probe. The court simultaneously issued formal orders barring several additional individuals from leaving the country, specifically targeting associates connected to the banned political organization Awami League.

The newly expanded travel restrictions specifically apply to Biplob Barua, who serves as the office secretary of the activities-banned Awami League. Alongside the prominent political figure, the judicial ban also captures his wife, Soma Barua, his brother, Biddut Barua, and his sister-in-law, Agni Barua, ensuring that all named parties remain available to domestic authorities as various inquiries proceed.

As the legal proceedings continue to unfold in Dhaka, relevant state agencies, including immigration authorities, have been formally alerted to enforce the travel bans strictly. The Anti-Corruption Commission will continue its detailed scrutiny of the suspicious financial transactions and associated records as the broader investigations into corruption and related criminal allegations advance.
