55 Indian Mobile Phones Recovered from Chicken Coop in Kurigram

In a joint operation conducted by local police and the Border Guard Bangladesh, authorities have successfully recovered 55 Indian smuggled mobile phones from a residential premises in Kurigram. The operation, which targeted illicit trade networks operating within the border region, took place on 21 August 2026 in the Bhurungamari area of Kurigram.

The contraband items were discovered hidden inside a chicken coop belonging to a local resident identified as Enamul Haque Antor, who is 26 years old. During the course of the raid, security forces arrested Enamul Haque Antor for his alleged involvement in the cross-border smuggling operation.

According to the official seizure details provided by the authorities, the recovered consignment includes various brands of mobile devices, notably several iPhones. Officials have estimated the total illegal seizure value of these smuggled electronic devices to be approximately 1.3 million Bangladeshi Taka.

The successful raid was executed under the direct leadership and coordination of key security officials. Subedar Md. Motiur Rahman, who serves as the camp commander of the Dholdanga camp under the Kurigram-22 Border Guard Bangladesh battalion, partnered with Muntasir Mamun Mun, the assistant superintendent of police for the Bhurungamari police circle, to direct the operation.

Following the raid and subsequent arrest, Assistant Superintendent of Police Muntasir Mamun Mun provided insights into the strategic importance of the location. He stated that Asadmor has long been utilized as a central hub by mobile phone smugglers, and explained that the raid was carried out in a planned manner through close coordination with the Border Guard Bangladesh to seize the devices.
