Youth arrested for attempted theft of AI highway camera in Comilla

Law enforcement authorities in Comilla have arrested a 40-year-old individual in connection with the attempted theft of a high-tech surveillance device positioned along a vital national transport artery. The detained suspect, identified specifically as Faruk, was taken into custody following a late-night incident that drew the immediate attention of local community members residing near the busy highway corridor.
The events leading up to the arrest transpired during the late hours of Tuesday, August 18. According to verified reports from the region, the targeted hardware was an artificial intelligence camera recently installed to monitor traffic and enhance public safety along the heavily trafficked Dhaka-Chittagong highway. The attempted theft took place precisely within the Raipur area, which falls under the jurisdiction of Daudkandi in Comilla.
Rather than fleeing the scene undetected, the suspect was successfully intercepted by vigilant local residents who noticed the suspicious activity unfolding near the highway infrastructure. Demonstrating swift community action, the individuals who apprehended Faruk immediately utilized the national emergency response system by calling 999 to report the crime in progress.
In response to the emergency call, highway police units dispatched personnel to the location in the Raipur area of Daudkandi. Upon securing the suspect from the local residents, the highway police formally transferred custody of Faruk to the officers stationed at the Daudkandi Model Police Station for standard legal processing and further investigation into the attempted theft.
Following the completion of initial police procedures, the detained individual faced judicial proceedings. On Wednesday afternoon, August 19, authorities transported Faruk from local police custody and officially sent him to the Comilla jail, where he remains detained while the investigation into the highway equipment incident continues.
