Turkey Shifts Oil and Diesel Imports from Russia to US and India
Turkey has significantly altered its energy import patterns by reducing reliance on Russia while boosting supplies from the United States and India. Data from Turkish Customs and energy analytics firm Kpler highlights this major shift in the nation's crude oil and diesel sourcing.

Turkey has notably reduced its crude oil and diesel imports from Russia while concurrently increasing its energy imports from the United States and India. According to official data provided by Turkish Customs, this shift in international trade patterns became particularly evident in June, highlighting a diversification of the nation's energy supply chains away from traditional markets.
In the month of June, the United States officially surpassed Russia to become Turkey's primary supplier of crude oil. During this period, Turkish authorities recorded the importation of 425,000 tons of oil originating from Russia. In stark contrast, the volume of oil imported into Turkey from the United States reached approximately 570,000 tons, establishing the US as the leading crude oil exporter to the country for that month.
Alongside the notable changes in crude oil procurement, Turkey has also expanded its diesel imports from both the United States and India. Recent findings from the prominent energy analytics firm Kpler illustrate the scale of these refined product purchases, which have scaled up significantly beginning in the month of August.
Data compiled by Kpler indicates that Turkey has imported over 120,000 barrels of Indian-made diesel daily since the month of August began. Additionally, the country has brought in 90,000 barrels of US-made diesel daily over the same timeframe, demonstrating a robust demand for refined petroleum products from these specific international partners.
Energy analysts tracking these trade movements note that the current surge in diesel imports from India and the United States has reached a record high. Kpler confirmed that these figures represent the highest daily import levels recorded since the energy analytics firm first began collecting comprehensive market data back in 2017.
