Turkey Seeks Interpol Red Notices for Netanyahu and Israeli Soldier

Turkey has officially applied for Interpol Red Notices against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli soldier Afek Moscovitch. The application, which was announced on the social media platform X, stems directly from an ongoing legal case regarding the military attack on the 'Global Freedom Flotilla' in international waters.

Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek detailed the latest legal steps taken by Ankara. He noted that an Istanbul court had previously issued formal arrest warrants for both Netanyahu and Moscovitch on July 14, with the suspects facing severe criminal allegations that include charges of genocide.

Minister Gurlek strongly defended the Turkish government's unwavering pursuit of accountability regarding the maritime incident. He stated that authorities will not provide any opportunity for crimes committed in Gaza to be swept under the rug or for those responsible to escape justice through impunity.

The diplomatic fallout from the announcement was immediate and severe. In response to Minister Gurlek's public disclosures on social media, the Israeli Prime Minister's office issued a scathing denunciation, explicitly labeling Turkish President Erdogan an 'anti-Semitic dictator' and accusing the Turkish government of actively attempting to destabilize the wider Middle East region.

The contentious legal battle over the Global Freedom Flotilla involves a total of 35 defendants and impacts more than 400 human rights activists who were part of the maritime mobilization. Beyond the actions taken by Ankara, international judicial scrutiny continues to widen as France, Italy, and Australia have also initiated their own independent judicial proceedings regarding the incident.
