In an incident that highlights the perilous conditions of maritime work, a fishing trawler named 'Raisa Moni', registered in Barguna, sank in the Bay of Bengal while returning from a fishing expedition. The maritime mishap occurred on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at approximately 7:00 PM in the waters adjacent to the Mohipur area under Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali district.

According to verified reports, the vessel went down as rough weather severely impacted the region's coastal waters. However, immediate and coordinated response efforts from the crew of a nearby fishing vessel averted what could have been a major disaster on the sea. Through their prompt intervention, all 16 fishermen aboard the sunken trawler were successfully rescued alive from the turbulent waters.

Confirming the details of the incident, Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, who represents the Barguna District Trawler Owners Association, provided crucial context regarding the deteriorating weather conditions in the area. Speaking about the operational challenges faced by marine workers, he noted that the rough sea conditions had prompted numerous other vessels to seek safety along the coastline since the previous day.

Elaborating further on the sequence of events, Chowdhury explained that the ill-fated trawler was similarly attempting its return journey to the coast when it ultimately capsized. He emphasized a comforting detail amidst the ordeal, stating that every single fisherman aboard the sunken vessel managed to remain safe during the maritime accident.

Providing an update on the salvage and recovery operations following the capsizing event, Chowdhury confirmed that authorities and local stakeholders have successfully tracked down the submerged vessel. He added that after the sunken trawler was properly identified in the marine area, it was subsequently secured and is currently being towed back toward the safety of the coastline.
