Tk 25 Crore Jagannathpur Textile Institute Sits Idle Without Staff
Construction of the Jagannathpur Textile Vocational Institute has been completed at a cost of about Tk 25 crore. However, educational activities have failed to start due to a lack of permanent manpower recruitment and final administrative approval.
The construction work of the Jagannathpur Textile Vocational Institute in Bangladesh has been officially completed, involving a government expenditure of about Tk 25 crore. The project commenced in October 2023 and successfully concluded in June 2025. Following the completion of the physical infrastructure, the designated contracting firm formally handed over the building. Furthermore, the institution has already secured the necessary institutional approval from the Bangladesh Technical Education Board.
Despite these critical milestones being reached, the educational activities of the institute remain completely stalled. The primary reasons behind this delay are the absence of permanent manpower recruitment and the lack of final administrative approval. Because permanent staff have not yet been appointed, authorities are currently relying on a single individual to oversee the entire facility on a temporary basis. Officials noted that the Department of Textiles has not yet submitted the final demand for manpower.
Local stakeholders and community figures have expressed urgency regarding the situation. Abdus Samad emphasized that such institutions, which are constructed using massive financial investments for the expansion of technical education, should be put into operation swiftly. Echoing this sentiment, Chadrul Islam stated that the operational launch of the institute would successfully open new educational doors for students in the region.
Highlighting the economic and employment context, Ataur Rahman pointed out that there is a vast demand for skilled human resources within the garment and textile sectors. He added that if the institute is launched promptly, local youths will be able to acquire modern and timely education at a low cost, ultimately allowing them to establish themselves professionally.
Meanwhile, administrative officials continue to address the administrative hurdles delaying the opening. Sohrab Hossain detailed the current oversight limitations, confirming that permanent personnel have not been recruited and that the Department of Textiles has yet to forward the formal, finalized staffing requirements. Until these administrative and recruitment processes are fully resolved, the Tk 25 crore facility in Jagannathpur remains unable to welcome students.
