The unfolding disaster stems from a catastrophic flash flood that struck the two countries' border areas last Wednesday. The sudden and violent deluge resulted in hundreds of fatalities among people residing in the affected zones. During the initial chaos and destruction caused by the raging waters, an estimated 1,500 individuals remained unaccounted for, leaving families and emergency responders desperate for news.
Amid the unfolding crisis, detailed reports have emerged regarding the physical alterations to the landscape caused by the disaster. State broadcaster CCTV and international media reported that during the initial glacier collapse, a massive accumulation of debris gathered along the mountain slopes, effectively forming a dangerous natural dam that threatens to burst at any moment.
