During the historic Battle of Uhud, which took place at the location known as Uhud, numerous companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) demonstrated extraordinary devotion. Among the notable figures present was Hazrat Hanzala ibn Abi Amir (RA), who played a significant role in the events of that day despite the immense challenges and fierce fighting that characterized the engagement.

On the very morning of the battle, a remarkable circumstance unfolded regarding Hazrat Hanzala (RA). According to Jamila bint Abdullah ibn Ubay, Hanzala had heard the call of the Prophet (PBUH) and chose to rush immediately to the battlefield without taking the time required to perform the obligatory ritual bath, leaving him in a state of ritual impurity. Jamila bint Abdullah ibn Ubay explained this by stating, "Hanzala did not even take the time to perform the obligatory ritual bath upon hearing the call of the Prophet; rather, he rushed to the battlefield in a state of impurity."

Seeking to understand the domestic circumstances surrounding this rushed departure, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) subsequently instructed those around him, saying, "Go to Hanzala's wife and inquire about his condition when he left the house." This inquiry helped shed light on the profound urgency and dedication that moved Hanzala (RA) to abandon personal preparations in order to join the ranks of the faithful at Uhud.

Tragically, Hazrat Hanzala (RA) was ultimately martyred during the fierce combat at Uhud. His father, Abu Amir, along with figures such as Abu Sufyan and Shaddad ibn al-Aswad, were also associated with the historical context of the period surrounding these military confrontations.

Following his martyrdom, a profound spiritual reality concerning Hazrat Hanzala (RA) was revealed by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Addressing the miraculous event, the Prophet (PBUH) stated, "I see the angels washing your brother Hanzala with the cool water of clouds kept in silver vessels between the heavens and the earth!" This divine honor cemented his legacy.

Because of this extraordinary heavenly intervention, Hazrat Hanzala (RA) became widely recognized and revered as 'Gasilul Malaika,' which translates to the one washed by the angels. His sacrifice and the miraculous manner of his post-mortem purification remain a celebrated account in Islamic history regarding the Battle of Uhud.
