The Heritage Commission of Saudi Arabia has made a significant archaeological discovery, revealing that the qibla wall of an ancient mosque features a carved supplication dedicated to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). According to the official announcement by the commission, this historic inscription provides a remarkable glimpse into the early Islamic heritage preserved within the region's sacred architectural sites.

Architectural analysis of the ancient mosque highlights its distinctive construction methods and design elements. The structure was built using carefully cut and polished granite stones, showcasing the advanced masonry skills of the period. Furthermore, the architectural layout of the mosque includes a prominent square minaret situated at its southeastern corner, alongside a clearly defined mihrab indicating the direction of prayer.

This recent revelation follows broader, extensive archaeological investigations conducted in the area. In June, archaeological teams operating within the Al-Madinah region's Al-Mahd Governorate successfully identified, recorded, and documented a vast collection consisting of 1,774 distinct archaeological artifacts and historical items.

Among the numerous discoveries documented during the June operations in the Al-Mahd Governorate was another highly significant historical artifact. Archaeologists uncovered a stone inscription bearing the name of the second Caliph, Hazrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), further enriching the historical narrative of the area.

These discoveries by the Saudi Heritage Commission underscore the rich historical and cultural landscape of the Al-Madinah region. By meticulously cataloging thousands of artifacts and preserving ancient structures like the granite mosque, authorities continue to safeguard vital physical evidence connected to the foundational figures of early Islamic history.
