Teesta Water Levels May Approach Danger Mark Across Northern Bangladesh

Bangladesh faces renewed concerns regarding rising water levels and potential flooding as weather and hydrological conditions shift across the region on August 14. According to official assessments from the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, alongside the Bangladesh Water Development Board, specific northern districts are bracing for significant hydrological pressure in the coming days.

The latest updates indicate that water levels in the Teesta river may approach the warning threshold within the next seventy-two hours. This potential rise is expected to directly impact several specific districts in the northern region, namely Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, and Rangpur, where certain areas are at risk of experiencing these elevated water flows.

At the same time, flooding concerns have already materialized in other parts of the country. In the northeastern region, the Kushiyara river in Fenchuganj, Sylhet, has surpassed its designated danger mark and is currently flowing above the critical threshold, adding to the broader national water management challenges.

These hydrological developments are being driven by broader regional weather patterns originating across the border. A land depression that was previously situated over the coastal area of West Bengal and its adjoining regions has now shifted and is currently positioned over Jharkhand in India and the adjoining Gangetic West Bengal area.
