In Madhupur, Tangail, Bangladesh, a community-driven initiative has taken root to address the growing concern of digital device addiction and idle time among young people. The Adarsha Samajkalyan Ganapathagar was officially established in March 2023 within the Tengri area of the Madhupur municipality. From its very inception, the institution sought to provide a productive alternative for local residents who found themselves spending excessive hours staring at mobile screens and wasting valuable time during breaks from their daily work.

The journey of the Adarsha Samajkalyan Ganapathagar began with modest resources and a strong foundational team. When the library first opened its doors, it operated out of a rented room and relied on the dedication of 15 founding members. Alongside these individuals, the early founders managed to collect around 150 books to stock the initial shelves. Among the key figures associated with the establishment and its ongoing mission are Khandokar Bodiuzzaman Bulbul, Shakil Ahmed, and Shah Alam, who have all witnessed the profound community shift brought about by the reading space.

As time has progressed, the library has experienced significant expansion in both its physical collection and its community impact. According to Mo. Shakil Ahmed, the library currently houses over a thousand books spanning various categories to cater to diverse literary tastes. This growth has been heavily supported by well-wishers and active members who continually donate new books to the facility. Consequently, the institution now serves a wide spectrum of readers, ranging from students attending local educational institutions like Madhupur Shahid Smriti Higher Secondary School to individuals of various other ages and backgrounds.

The establishment of the library has yielded measurable positive changes throughout the local area. According to Mo. Shakil Ahmed, the once disorderly youth society has increasingly concentrated its daily focus on regular reading habits. Instead of falling victim to substance abuse and excessive digital device usage, young people are now spending their free time engaging in physical sports and dedicated book reading sessions at the library.

Local readers have directly echoed these sentiments regarding the personal benefits of utilizing the library space. Shah Alam reflected on his own transformation, noting that he previously wasted significant amounts of important time idly scrolling through mobile phone screens during breaks from work. However, by visiting the Adarsha Samajkalyan Ganapathagar to read books, he has been able to learn and discover numerous new subjects. Dedicating whatever spare time he finds to reading has not only improved how he spends his leisure hours but has also helped him stay away from many bad habits entirely through the power of reading.
