Shariful Islam claims historic 7 wickets against Australia in Mackay Test

Bangladesh fast bowler Shariful Islam has delivered a historic performance on the second day of the second Test in Mackay, Australia, claiming seven wickets against the Australian batting lineup. Playing in his very first Test match on Australian soil, Shariful dismantled the hosts' batting order with exceptional bowling figures of 48 runs for 7 wickets.

His destructive spell restricted Australia to a total of 210 runs all out in their first innings. This monumental achievement stands as the best bowling figures by a Bangladeshi bowler in a Test match outside of home territory, while also marking a new career-best bowling performance for Shariful Islam himself.

Shariful's achievement carries profound historical significance on the international stage, breaking a 33-year drought for visiting bowlers. He is now the first visiting bowler to take seven wickets in a single Test match on Australian soil in over three decades.

The last visiting player to achieve this rare feat was West Indies legend Curtly Ambrose, who famously claimed seven wickets for 25 runs at the WACA ground in Perth back in 1993.

Prior to Shariful's heroics with the ball, the match saw earlier struggles for the touring Bangladesh side, who were bundled out for 64 runs in their own first innings. Amidst that difficult batting collapse, Shariful Islam had also contributed with the bat, managing to score 14 runs for his team.
