The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has finalized and announced the national squad for the upcoming lone Test match against Afghanistan, which is scheduled to commence on October 9 in the United Arab Emirates. Alongside the squad announcement, team officials provided comprehensive fitness updates regarding key players who will miss the upcoming fixture due to injuries and strategic rest periods.

Among the notable absentees from the squad are fast bowlers Nahid Rana and Taskin Ahmed. Nahid Rana sustained an injury during a series against Zimbabwe back in July, and medical assessments indicate that he has no possibility of being fit enough to play before October 10. Consequently, his absence from the upcoming Test match against Afghanistan is a necessary precaution to ensure his full recovery.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has been explicitly rested with the upcoming series against the West Indies kept firmly in mind. Team selector Habibul Bashar elaborated on the strategic planning surrounding Taskin, noting the strong desire to have him fully fit and available for the West Indies matches. Discussions are actively ongoing regarding the ideal pathway for his return to competitive cricket, which could involve playing two matches in an upcoming triangular series in the UAE to prepare for Tests, or utilizing the domestic first-class cricket season for preparation.

Habibul Bashar also addressed the management of other key players, emphasizing that priority is being placed on the ICC World Test Championship matches. To ensure Taskin Ahmed is completely recovered and fully available for the West Indies series, he has been omitted from the squad for the Afghanistan Test, though he is expected to participate in the triangular series.

Further adjustments to the squad include a change in the wicketkeeper-batsman department. Amit Hasan, who had been included during the Australia series, has been replaced in the side by Zaker Ali. Habibul Bashar explained the rationale behind this selection shift, stating that Amit Hasan had been taken on board as a wicketkeeper viewed as a promising prospect for the future.

However, the selectors ultimately decided to recall Zaker Ali to the squad. Bashar noted that Zaker Ali had previously been their preferred choice before being dropped due to a dip in form. Following his omission, Zaker Ali delivered performances that successfully met and fulfilled the expectations placed upon him by the selection panel, earning him a return to the team.
