Protest in Bagerhat Over Alleged Medical Negligence and Botched Surgery

A human chain was staged on September 8 at the Chitalmari Upazila Parishad premises in Bagerhat to protest alleged medical negligence and a botched surgery that has left a patient on her deathbed. The demonstration was organized by the relatives of the victim, Lovely Gharami, alongside local residents seeking accountability for the severe complications that arose following her medical procedure at a local healthcare facility.

According to the verified facts, the controversy centers around a Caesarean section performed on Lovely Gharami at the Habiba Clinic and Barish Diagnostic Center in Chitalmari upazila. Following the surgical procedure, the patient's condition deteriorated significantly, prompting her family and concerned community members to take public action outside the upazila headquarters to demand a thorough investigation and proper action against those responsible.

In response to the mounting public pressure and grievances brought forward by the victim's family, Chitalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khadija Akter addressed the situation. She officially confirmed that authorities have received formal complaints regarding the alleged malpractice and sub-standard medical treatment. Furthermore, the UNO announced that an investigation committee will be formed to look into the specific circumstances surrounding the incident at the clinic.

The incident has drawn considerable local attention due to the severity of the allegations involving surgical complications and post-operative neglect.
