Primary school headmistress killed in Dhaka handbag snatching attempt
A primary school headmistress from Bogura died in Dhaka on Saturday morning after falling from a rickshaw during a motorcycle-borne snatching attempt. Her husband has filed a police case as authorities review CCTV footage to identify the suspects.
A 54-year-old primary school headmistress tragically lost her life in Dhaka on Saturday, August 29, following a violent handbag snatching attempt near the Parliament South Plaza area. The victim, identified as Ranjila Parvin, had travelled to the capital from Bogura alongside her husband for scheduled medical treatment concerning her eyes. According to confirmed details provided by her relatives, the couple had departed from Bogura on a bus at midnight on Friday and arrived in Dhaka early Saturday morning to visit the hospital.
While the couple was travelling in a rickshaw toward the Isphahani Islamia Eye Hospital in Farmgate, two unidentified perpetrators on a motorcycle intercepted them near the Jatiya Sangsad area. As the vehicle pulled alongside the rickshaw, the individuals attempted to snatch the handbag carried by Ranjila Parvin. The sudden and aggressive tug caused her to lose her balance and fall violently from the moving rickshaw onto the roadway, resulting in severe trauma to her head.
Following the harrowing incident, her husband, Abdul Matin, immediately rushed her to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for urgent medical attention. However, upon arrival at the medical facility, the attending physicians examined the victim and officially declared her dead. Relatives, including her brother Tabez Ahmed, expressed profound grief over how a routine medical journey was abruptly transformed into an unspeakable tragedy by criminal violence.
Ranjila Parvin served as the headmistress of the Bagbari Government Girls' Primary School located in the Gabtali upazila of Bogura district. Her untimely demise has sent shockwaves through her local educational community and among her grieving family members, who are now grappling with the sudden loss of a dedicated educator and beloved family member during what was supposed to be a standard healthcare visit.
In response to the fatal incident, legal proceedings have formally commenced with the local authorities. A formal case, registered as Case No. 23, has been filed at the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station by the victim's husband, Abdul Matin. Investigators are actively reviewing available closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage surrounding the Parliament South Plaza area to track down the fleeing motorcycle and identify the culprits responsible for the deadly snatching attempt.
