The recruitment process for government primary school headmaster positions in Dhaka, Bangladesh, has encountered significant delays regarding the scheduling of the examination and subsequent promotions. According to verified reports from Prothom Alo, nearly seven lakh job seekers have submitted applications for a total of 1,122 vacant headmaster positions across the country.

Amidst the administrative timeline, the regulatory framework governing these positions has undergone notable adjustments. The recruitment rules were specifically amended to mandate that eighty percent of the total vacant headmaster posts must be filled through promotional pathways rather than direct external hiring alone.

Administrative transitions at the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) have further contextualized the operational timeline. On August 18, the then-chairman of the commission, Mobasser Monem, resigned from his official capacity. Subsequently, on Wednesday, September 2, Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuiyan, a professor from the Department of Law at the University of Dhaka, was officially appointed as the new chairman of the BPSC.

Regarding the ongoing examination procedures, Shahina Ferdoussi confirmed specific operational developments. She stated that the necessary information and data concerning the recruitment examination have already been officially dispatched to the BPSC by the department, noting that the commission will determine the precise examination date and schedule according to its own operational convenience.

The broader structural shortage within the primary education system remains substantial. Out of a total of 65,457 approved headmaster positions authorized across the country, a striking 34,159 posts currently lack a permanent headmaster, highlighting the critical scale of vacancies that the upcoming administrative and promotional procedures aim to address.
