Pothole on Tahirpur Upazila Road Prompts Community Repair
Locals and auto-rickshaw drivers have repaired a large pothole on the Tahirpur Upazila headquarters road. The initiative aims to prevent accidents for thousands of students using the route.
A significant hazard has emerged on a vital thoroughfare in Sunamganj district, where a large pothole recently formed on the paved road located approximately 100 meters west of the Tahirpur Upazila Parishad headquarters. The damaged section of the road connects critical areas within the Tahirpur Upazila region, presenting immediate safety risks for the heavy volume of daily commuters who must traverse the area.
The affected route is heavily utilized by students attending three major educational institutions situated along the path: Tahirpur Government High School, Tahirpur Girls' High School, and Tahirpur Model Government Primary School. According to verified data, approximately 2,000 students rely on this specific roadway every single day to travel to and from their classes, making the deteriorating road conditions a matter of pressing public concern for parents and educators alike.
In response to the growing danger, the local auto-rickshaw drivers' association, alongside active community youths, stepped forward to execute temporary safety measures. Local auto-rickshaw driver Faruk Mia described the hazardous driving conditions on the route, noting that the severity of the road damage restricts large vehicles from passing through entirely. To mitigate these risks, Mr. Mia, with the assistance of local youth Abul Hasan and other community members, used 15 soil-filled sacks to perform minor repairs on the road and tied red warning flags around the area to alert drivers.
Alongside Faruk Mia and Abul Hasan, several other local individuals including হোসেন আহমদ তৌফিক, লুৎফুর রহমান লাকসাব, আতিকুর রহমান, জাহিদুল ইসলাম, and মো. মেহেদী হাসান মানিক have been associated with the locality and community awareness surrounding the road conditions. Their concerted grassroots efforts highlight the proactive stance taken by residents to protect travelers from potential accidents while navigating the compromised infrastructure.
Looking ahead toward a permanent resolution, relevant authorities have provided assurances regarding the damaged infrastructure. Officials from the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) along with the local administration have indicated that the road will be promptly repaired through funding provided directly by the Upazila Parishad, ensuring restored safety for all residents and students.
