Panic and Glass Breakage Injures Eight at Khela Shahid Mazar Urus
Eight devotees sustained injuries during a stampede and panic caused by a short circuit at the Khela Shahid Mazar in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria. The victims received initial treatment from a temporary medical team before being transferred to the local health complex.
During the ongoing annual observance and gathering of the Urus at the Kharmpur Kella Shahid (Rah.) Mazar, an unexpected incident involving an electrical short circuit triggered widespread panic among the gathered devotees. The event, which took place within the mosque premises at the shrine, caused sudden alarm among the large crowd gathered for the religious occasion in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria.
As the electrical fault occurred, devotees inside the mosque became intensely frightened, leading to a frantic rush and scramble as people attempted to move away from the perceived danger. In the ensuing chaos and stampede, glass structures within the shrine area were shattered, directly resulting in injuries to at least eight individuals who were participating in the Urus activities.
The injured devotees have been identified as Hiron Mia, aged 50, Md. Farid Gazi, aged 55, Nurul Islam, aged 62, Md. Moin Uddin, aged 65, Md. Taru Mia, aged 48, Md. Izu Mia, aged 45, Jasim Mia, aged 65, and Mintu Mia, aged 60. These individuals bore the brunt of the sudden rush and the breaking glass during the harrowing moments of panic.
Immediate response measures were taken at the shrine following the incident. The injured individuals were initially rushed to the temporary medical team stationed on-site at the Mazar, where they were administered urgent preliminary medical care for their wounds.
Following the initial on-site intervention by the medical team, all eight injured persons were subsequently sent to the Akhaura Upazila Health Complex for further evaluation and necessary treatment to ensure their recovery from the incident.
Providing details on the situation, Javedul Islam confirmed the sequence of events, stating that the short-circuit incident caused Mazar devotees to become terrified. He noted that during this time, glass broke, resulting in seven to eight people sustaining injuries who were subsequently given primary medical treatment, and confirmed that the situation is currently completely normal.
