Panchabati-Muktarpur Double-Decker Road Nears Completion

The construction work of the Panchabati-Muktarpur double-decker road has reached its final stages, with an impressive 97 percent of the total project already completed according to the latest updates. This significant infrastructure development spans across the regions of Narayanganj and Munshiganj, designed to fundamentally transform regional connectivity and ease the daily commute for thousands of travelers. According to the project roadmap, the authorities have formulated a concrete plan to officially launch the Panchabati-Char Syedpur section of the newly built double-decker road for public traffic movement in the coming month of September.

As the construction progresses rapidly toward its ultimate conclusion, officials have expressed strong optimism that the entirety of the vast project will be successfully wrapped up by December. The comprehensive initiative encompasses a total estimated project cost of three thousand three hundred eighteen crore and seventy-nine lakh taka, which is being implemented efficiently by a designated Chinese contracting firm. The overarching timeline for this major development spans from January 2021 through to December 2026, marking a critical milestone in regional transportation engineering.

The engineering specifications of the roadway involve extensive modifications, featuring ten point eight one three kilometers of at-grade road widening alongside nine point six five kilometers of elevated roadway and associated ramps. Upon completion, the upper level of the double-decker road measures thirty-six feet in width and operates as a two-lane corridor where vehicles utilizing the second tier will be subject to specific toll collections. Conversely, the ground-level roadway boasts a fifty-four-foot width arranged into four lanes that will remain entirely toll-free for everyday commuters.

A structured toll framework has been established for the upper elevated section, outlining specific fees categorized by vehicle type such as twenty taka for motorcycles, fifty taka for CNG-driven auto-rickshaws, and eighty taka for private cars. Furthermore, microbuses will incur a toll of one hundred taka, while buses are designated to pay three hundred and four hundred taka respectively. The infrastructure also incorporates four toll plazas and five weight scales to regulate traffic and vehicle loads effectively across the newly established route.

Anticipated economic and logistical benefits of the project are profound, projected to reduce travel time by approximately sixty-two point eight nine percent while boosting the average speed of vehicles by four point four fivefold. Additionally, traffic congestion delays are expected to plummet by roughly seventy-four point seven four percent across the corridor. Highlighting the transformative impact of the initiative, Project Engineer Md. Ohiduzzaman stated that the opening of this double-decker road built under the Muktarpur-Panchabati road widening and double-decking project will make vehicular movement between Munshiganj, Narayanganj, and the capital much easier and more dynamic, while also playing an important role in resolving long-standing traffic congestion.
