Nepal Proposes Bilateral Cricket Series to Bangladesh Cricket Board

The Cricket Association of Nepal has officially submitted a proposal to the Bangladesh Cricket Board, commonly known as the BCB, expressing a strong desire to play a bilateral cricket series against the national team. The development brings renewed focus to potential fixtures between the two cricketing nations, whose previous encounters on the international stage have been limited to the shortest format of the game.

Addressing the formal proposal, Shahriyar Nafis provided official commentary on behalf of the organization regarding the status of the prospective fixtures. According to Shahriyar Nafis, the Nepal cricket board had sent the proposal some time ago, clearly indicating their keen interest in hosting or playing a bilateral series with Bangladesh. Shahriyar Nafis confirmed that the Bangladesh Cricket Board has received this overture very positively, and discussions are currently actively underway between the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the Cricket Association of Nepal.

Despite the positive reception from the Bangladesh Cricket Board, scheduling remains a significant logistical hurdle for the upcoming fixtures. Shahriyar Nafis noted the packed nature of their schedule, stating that their Future Tours Programme is extremely busy. Nevertheless, Shahriyar Nafis explained that officials are currently attempting to find a convenient and mutually suitable window within this existing cycle to accommodate the matches.

Should the scheduling logistics be successfully resolved, the bilateral series will proceed as planned. Shahriyar Nafis emphasized that once everything is finalized and properly arranged, the series between the two nations could officially take place. This careful planning aims to ensure the matches fit seamlessly into the broader international cricket calendar without disrupting existing commitments.

Historically, encounters between the two sides on the international cricket pitch have been rare, marked by only two previous matches in the Twenty20 format. In those prior meetings, Bangladesh secured victory on both occasions, winning by eight wickets during the 2014 T20 World Cup and subsequently claiming a 21-run victory during the 2024 T20 World Cup at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 12 September 2026.
