Minister Ahmed Azam Khan Outlines Union Council Election Strategy in Tangail

Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan delivered a significant address as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized by the Sakhipur Upazila BNP. The event took place yesterday, Tuesday, at the Sakhipur Dak Bungalow premises located in Tangail. The gathering brought together local party members and leaders to discuss upcoming local government elections and regional development initiatives.

The meeting was presided over by Nazim Uddin Master, who serves as the acting president of the Sakhipur Upazila BNP. During the proceedings, the leaders addressed the political landscape and emphasized the importance of grassroots organization. Minister Ahmed Azam Khan took the floor to speak directly to the constituents about their expectations, local governance, and the upcoming electoral processes.

Addressing the upcoming local government polls, Minister Ahmed Azam Khan stated, "Front of us is the Union Parishad election. This election will be an election of people's votes. We have seen the last three Union Parishad elections. The Awami League gives nominations and goes to the center to seal and pass. And no qualified candidate gets a chance. This election will be held between December, January, or February. This time there will be no sealing, chairmen and members will be elected by the people's votes." He added, "My party BNP will take part in that election. Other democratic parties or neutral individuals will take part in that election. Based on qualification, you dear Sakhipur residents will vote. I will say, from within my party those who are talented, those who are educated, those who are popular, we will give chairman nominations from among them to represent you."

Focusing on the necessity of local cooperation and development, the Minister stated, "Five years you have taken me into confidence and voted to serve me. So that I can serve you, if you gift me 10 chairmen in 10 unions, Inshallah I will flow the flood of development for you." He further elaborated on his commitment by noting, "I have become committed to you today. If you strengthen my hand, then I will be able to strengthen development. If it is seen that there is no BNP chairman in a union, I gave development and the chairman did something else overnight in another sector. The deprived will be those union residents. I want my 10 unions and this municipal resident not to be deprived in the next five years."

Stressing party discipline, Minister Ahmed Azam Khan warned against internal discord, stating, "Party unity cannot be destroyed. Trust must be kept in leadership. We will look, listen, understand and give nomination. No one will try to create division inside the party there. The government is strong only when the party is united. No one will be impatient. No one will think outside the party. Remember, if there is a democratic system, the opportunity will come before everyone. But if you become restless, impatient, the party will become weak, the government will become weak."

Finally, the Minister addressed a long-standing regional grievance concerning land regulations, noting that the Atia Forest Act was enacted in 1982. He stated, "We are tortured and devastated because of the Atia Forest Act. I have already spoken twice in Parliament, spoken to the Forest Minister." He assured the gathering, "As far as possible, abolishing this law, I will free the Sakhipur residents. I am always by your side. BNP is the party of the people, will always be by the side of the people."
