Man Arrested in Bangladesh Over Child Marriage, Kidnapping and Rape
A man has been arrested in Faridpur following allegations of kidnapping and rape, weeks after his unregistered marriage to an underage girl. The case is currently under active investigation by local law enforcement authorities.
A formal criminal case has been filed against a man named Rumon Khandaker in Nagarkanda, Faridpur, involving serious allegations of kidnapping and rape. The legal proceedings initiated against the accused mark a significant development in a case that initially began with a socially arranged marriage earlier this year.
According to the verified details of the case, the social marriage ceremony involving Rumon Khandaker and an underage girl took place on May 22 of the current year. Official records confirmed that the bride's age was under eighteen years old at the time of the ceremony, which legally prevented the marriage from being formally registered.
Subsequent to the unregistered wedding, legal action was taken on July 2. On this date, formal charges including kidnapping and rape were filed against Rumon Khandaker at the local police station, leading to his immediate apprehension by law enforcement officers.
Following his arrest on July 2, the accused Rumon Khandaker was placed into custody and is currently being held in jail. The ongoing criminal investigation into the various allegations is being officially handled and led by Sub-Inspector Shahidul Islam.
