Main suspects arrested in Dhamrai torture-murder and Comilla journalist attack
Rapid Action Battalion and district detective police have arrested the main suspects in separate violent crimes. The arrests follow the death of a tortured man in Dhamrai and an assault on journalists in Comilla's Sadar South.
Law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh have arrested the prime suspects in two separate high-profile criminal cases involving torture and assault, according to official updates released on August 27. The operations, spanning multiple regions, led to the apprehension of individuals allegedly connected to the fatal beating of a man in Dhamrai and a violent attack on journalists in Comilla.
In the first case, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) successfully tracked down and arrested the prime accused, Md. Wazed Haji, in Cox's Bazar. Wazed Haji is the primary suspect in a murder case filed in Dhamrai, Dhaka, following the death of Shankar Chandra Mandal, who was subjected to severe physical abuse after being falsely accused of theft.
According to the confirmed timeline of the Dhamrai incident, the brutal assault took place on the night of August 8 inside a rented rice mill operated by Wazed. Following the severe beating, Shankar Chandra Mandal was admitted for medical treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of August 15, passing away while receiving care.
In a separate enforcement action in the Comilla district, the district detective police (DB) apprehended the primary suspect, Shawon, in connection with a violent assault on two journalists. The attack on the media workers took place in the Sreemontopur area located within the Comilla Sadar South upazila.
Both arrests mark significant developments in the respective investigations being conducted by law enforcement authorities. The suspects are now facing further legal proceedings as the police continue to process the cases related to the Dhamrai murder and the Comilla journalist assault.
