Magura Mobile Court Jails Trader Over Illegal Fertilizer Stockpile
A mobile court in Sreepur upazila of Magura has sentenced a local businessman to seven days in prison and fined him Tk 30,000 for illegally hoarding fertilizer to create an artificial crisis. Authorities also seized 288 sacks of fertilizer during the operation.
The upazila administration in Sreepur, Magura, has conducted a decisive mobile court operation targeting the illegal stockpiling of agricultural fertilizer and the deliberate creation of artificial supply shortages in the local market. The intervention was carried out following reports of dishonest business practices that threatened the availability of essential farming supplies for local agriculturalists in the region.
During the course of the targeted enforcement operation, the mobile court successfully uncovered and confiscated a substantial quantity of illegally hoarded agricultural supplies. Official records from the raid confirm that a total of 288 sacks of fertilizer were seized from the possession of the offending party before they could be released into the black market or used to inflate local prices.
The presiding mobile court magistrate subsequently prosecuted a local trader identified as Jamirul Islam for his direct involvement in the illicit hoarding scheme. According to the official judgment delivered at the scene, the accused businessman faced immediate punitive measures for manipulating the supply of vital agricultural commodities within the Sreepur area of Magura.
As a direct consequence of the legal proceedings, Jamirul Islam was handed a monetary penalty amounting to 30,000 taka. In addition to the financial fine, the mobile court sentenced the trader to seven days of rigorous imprisonment, serving as a stern warning against any future attempts to jeopardize regional agricultural stability through illegal commercial practices.
Local administrative authorities have emphasized that such monitoring and enforcement operations will continue across Sreepur and the wider Magura district to protect farmers and ensure fair market access. The strict sentencing of the trader underscores the government's zero-tolerance policy toward unscrupulous merchants who attempt to exploit agricultural communities by engineering artificial shortages of indispensable farming materials.
