Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan addressed the national parliament in Dhaka regarding the ongoing process of updating the official list of freedom fighters. Speaking at the Jatiya Sangsad, the minister delivered his remarks in response to a parliamentary inquiry presented by Md. Nazmul Huda, a member of parliament representing the Meherpur-2 constituency.

During his address in the legislature, the Liberation War Affairs Minister highlighted several administrative challenges and political exclusions that occurred over a significant period. He specifically noted that during the 18 years of fascism, numerous genuine freedom fighters were deliberately excluded from the official registry solely because they engaged in opposition politics.

Addressing the current administration's corrective measures, Minister Ahmed Azam Khan explained that the government is actively accepting applications to ensure that all legitimate freedom fighters are properly included. He emphasized that systematic arrangements are currently being implemented to officially enlist those deserving individuals who had previously failed to get their names onto the registry due to various circumstances.

In addition to incorporating overlooked veterans, the ministry is simultaneously addressing fraudulent entries within the national database. The minister informed the parliament that alongside the inclusion of authentic freedom fighters, comprehensive vetting and scrutiny operations are actively underway to identify and remove individuals who secured inclusion through various irregularities despite not being actual freedom fighters.

The statements from the Liberation War Affairs Ministry underscore the government's broader administrative effort to overhaul the freedom fighter registry through rigorous verification protocols. By addressing both historical exclusions linked to political victimisation and unauthorized inclusions stemming from past irregularities, the authorities aim to finalize an accurate and credible roster of the nation's freedom fighters.
