Kishoreganj school for visually impaired girls unused for six years

A newly constructed two-story school building and hostel designated for visually impaired girls in Kishoreganj town has remained entirely unoccupied and unused for a period of six years following the completion of its physical infrastructure. Government authorities initiated the project to provide specialized educational and residential facilities for vulnerable children in the area, addressing a critical social welfare need within the municipality.

The physical construction of the facility was officially completed in the year 2019. Financial records from the implementation phase indicate that the total expenditure for erecting the two-story structure amounted to 1 crore 61 lakh 99 thousand taka. The project was executed under the supervision and direct oversight of the Public Works Department, which finished the building work in anticipation of its future occupants.

Despite the successful conclusion of the building phase, the institution has never opened its doors or admitted any students. According to verified details surrounding the project, the primary reason for the extended delay and ongoing vacancy is the complete failure of authorities to secure and recruit the necessary manpower required to operate the school and hostel facilities.

The original operational plan for the facility was intended to serve a specific demographic of vulnerable youth. The target group designated for the school and hostel comprised 10 visually impaired girls, ranging in age from 6 to 16 years old, who were meant to receive both education and residential care on the premises.

However, the prolonged disuse and total lack of physical security or institutional oversight have severely impacted the condition of the government-funded property. Various valuable equipment and construction materials installed inside the building have been subjected to theft and continuous vandalism as the structure stands neglected.

Furthermore, the abandoned state of the campus has created an environment that attracts unauthorized individuals to the location. Verified reports indicate that local drug addicts now routinely frequent the premises, taking advantage of the prolonged absence of staff, students, and security personnel at the site in Kishoreganj town.
