Khulna Rooftop Solar Plant Launched With New Government Incentives
A one-megawatt rooftop solar plant was inaugurated at Bangladesh Cable Shilpa Limited in Khulna. The government announced a one-percent interest loan and a purchase rate of 10.50 taka per unit for surplus electricity.
On September 9, 2026, a significant step toward renewable energy expansion was taken at the Bangladesh Cable Shilpa Limited located in Shiromoni, Khulna. An advanced rooftop solar plant with a generation capacity of one megawatt was officially inaugurated at the industrial facility, marking a notable milestone for sustainable energy infrastructure in the region.
The inauguration ceremony featured notable figures and local administration officials, including Fakir Mahbub Anam, Bilkis Jahan Rimi, Nazrul Islam Monju, Md. Shahidul Islam, Md. Enamul Haque, Md. Shahjahan, and Alamgir Hossain. Representatives from key local bodies, specifically the Khulna City Corporation and the Khulna District Administration, were also present to witness the launch alongside delegates from Bangladesh Cable Shilpa Limited.
Fakir Mahbub Anam, serving as the chief guest, delivered a keynote address detailing the administration's broader energy strategy and new financial incentives. He emphasized that to guarantee an uninterrupted power supply, the nation must place the utmost importance on utilizing solar energy and installing solar panels across available infrastructure.
Detailing the new financial support mechanisms during the event, the chief guest announced that ordinary citizens who establish solar power plants will receive government incentives in the form of loans issued at a minimal one percent interest rate. Furthermore, to encourage broader participation, the government will purchase any surplus electricity generated by these private and commercial rooftop systems at a rate of 10.50 taka per unit.
Highlighting the macro-level ambitions of the administration, the chief guest stated that the government has set a definitive target to generate 10,000 megawatts of electricity from solar power plants over the next five years. As part of this comprehensive strategy, active initiatives have been undertaken to harness barren and uncultivated lands across the country for the establishment of large-scale solar power generation facilities.
