Dhaka Event Honors Century's Successful Figures on Aug 21
Dhaka University hosted an event honoring successful figures and launching publications. Ministers and dignitaries attended the Friday ceremony.

On Friday, August 21, 2026, the Osman Jamal Auditorium at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University served as the venue for the prestigious event titled 'Centenary Successful Person Memorial Honor and Publication and Reception-2026'. The gathering brought together numerous notable individuals, academics, and officials to celebrate the remarkable lifetime contributions of distinguished personalities who have left an indelible mark on society through their various endeavors.
Fakir Mahbub Anam, serving as the Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology as well as the Minister for Science and Technology, graced the occasion as the chief guest and delivered an important address to the assembled audience. During his speech, the minister emphasized the vital necessity of acknowledging individuals who have made significant contributions to the nation and society, stating that such recognition must transcend considerations of religion, political affiliation, or personal identity in order to properly inspire the younger generation.
Highlighting the impact of these honors, Fakir Mahbub Anam remarked that recognizing and celebrating historical contributions and achievements serves to actively encourage youth to engage more deeply in positive social activities. He noted that honoring such trailblazers helps bridge the gap between historical legacy and contemporary aspirations, providing a clear roadmap for upcoming generations who wish to dedicate their lives to the betterment of their communities and the country at large.
Addressing modern societal challenges during the ceremony, the minister drew attention to the growing prevalence of excessive mobile phone usage and social media consumption among the youth, which he pointed out has significantly diminished the traditional habit of reading books. Furthermore, he expressed grave concern regarding the proliferation of harmful and inappropriate content across various social media platforms, warning that such digital exposure exerts a deeply negative influence on the minds of children and adolescents.
To combat these rising digital concerns, Fakir Mahbub Anam revealed that the government is actively engaging in discussions with relevant stakeholders of social media platforms to implement necessary and effective measures. By collaborating with industry leaders and policy makers, the administration aims to create a safer online environment for minors while simultaneously steering the youth back toward constructive intellectual habits such as literature and community participation.
The event also featured a significant literary segment alongside the honors and discussions, marking the official unveiling of eight new books and publications. The ceremony, organized by Chhayaneer, concluded with the formal reception and felicitation of prominent figures including Dr. Yusuf Khan, Md. Lutfor Rahman Matin, Abdul Kashem Chowdhury, Shaykhanaje Rahman, and Md. Lutfor Rahman, celebrating their enduring legacies within the country.
