July Uprising and Awami League Rule to Feature in Textbooks
The education ministry has announced that content regarding the July uprising will be included in textbooks from the upcoming academic year. Additionally, incidents from the Awami League's regime will be added to the secondary curriculum by 2027.
During a session at the Jatiya Sangsad in Dhaka on Tuesday, significant announcements regarding the nation's educational curriculum were officially delivered by the authorities. The updates outline sweeping revisions to how contemporary political history and student movements will be taught to students across the country in the coming years.
According to the official announcements made during the parliamentary proceedings, the content surrounding the July uprising is scheduled for inclusion in textbooks starting from the upcoming academic year. This move aims to document the recent historical political developments within the official educational framework provided by the Ministry of Education.
Furthermore, structural additions are planned for secondary level education as part of the curriculum updates. Beginning with the 2027 academic year, the ninth and tenth-grade textbook titled 'Bangladesh History and World Civilization' will feature newly incorporated educational content detailing various events, enforced disappearances, and mass killings that occurred during the rule of the Awami League.
In addition to the historical and political updates slated for the curriculum, the government has finalized welfare initiatives aimed at madrasa students. Under the Secondary Education Development Programme (SEDP) run by the Ministry of Education, a mid-day meal program is officially set to be launched across all madrasas in the country during the 2026-2031 period.
