JU Students Lock Administrative Building Over Hall Renovation Demands

Residential students at Jahangirnagar University's AFM Kamaluddin Hall have launched a striking protest by locking the main administrative building and staging a sit-in. The demonstration, which began at approximately 11:30 am on Sunday, September 6, highlights mounting frustrations over living conditions at the residential facility.

Rather than a conventional demonstration, the protesting students chose a symbolic form of resistance. Right outside the locked administrative building, the participants engaged in a game of cricket to voice their protest and draw immediate attention from university authorities regarding their neglected residential hall.

The core of the student movement centers around four distinct demands aimed at improving the infrastructure and security of the AFM Kamaluddin Hall. Among their primary grievances, the students are demanding the complete renovation of the fourth-floor roof, which requires urgent maintenance work.

In addition to the rooftop repairs, the residents are pressing the administration to install tiles on the walls of 19 specific rooms situated adjacent to the hall's washrooms. The students argue that these basic facility upgrades are long overdue and essential for maintaining a standard living environment.

Furthermore, the four-point charter of demands includes critical infrastructural developments within the residential area. Students have called for the immediate construction of internal connecting roads, the initiation of much-needed renovation work on the hall's playground, and the full reinstallation of the protective barbed-wire security fencing.
