Jamaat-e-Islami Announces Dhaka-to-Chittagong Long March for Sept 5

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has officially announced a major political long march stretching from the historical Shapla Chattar in Dhaka to the Laldighi historic ground in Chittagong. The announcement was made during a press briefing held at the party's central office on August 25, 2025. This high-profile event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 5, marking a significant mobilization for the organization and its allied groups, including Islami Chhatrasibir.

Detailing the logistical plans for the upcoming event, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mia Golam Parwar stated during the briefing that participants will assemble at Shapla Chattar, a location tied to many historical movements, starting at 7:00 AM. From that historic gathering point, the procession will begin its journey toward the Laldighi ground in Chittagong, another renowned venue for historical political movements. Organizers expect thousands of vehicles to join the long-distance protest caravan as it moves across the designated route.

Mia Golam Parwar also elaborated on the intermediate itinerary of the journey, noting that the political campaign will feature scheduled stops for public gatherings. He confirmed that top-tier party leadership will participate in these events to ensure their success, stating that leadership figures will address supporters at approximately six to seven designated points along the route of the expedition.

Furthermore, this extensive political mobilization carries broader implications for the national political landscape. Mia Golam Parwar highlighted that this long march represents the largest initial political program organized by the unity of 11 parties acting as the opposition following the thirteenth national parliamentary election. The coalition aims to demonstrate significant political presence and public backing through this coordinated effort.

In preparation for the massive movement of people and vehicles, the organizers have engaged with domestic authorities. Official schedules concerning the long march routes connecting Dhaka to Chittagong, as well as separate routes covering Dhaka to Rangpur, Dhaka to Khulna, and Dhaka to Sylhet, have been formally submitted in writing to the police administration to ensure administrative awareness and coordination.
