Jahangirnagar University Bandhushava recently hosted a reading circle to celebrate the 91st birth anniversary of writer and filmmaker Zahir Raihan. Participants discussed his novel 'Ar Koto Din' at the university's TSC building.
The Jahangirnagar University unit of Bandhushava organised a special reading circle event to mark the 91st birth anniversary of renowned writer and filmmaker Zahir Raihan. The literary gathering took place on August 20 in the afternoon, providing a dedicated space for students and literature enthusiasts to engage deeply with the late author's seminal works and his broader cultural legacy.
The focal point of the reading circle was Zahir Raihan's celebrated novel 'Ar Koto Din'. Attendees gathered inside room number 10 of the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) at Jahangirnagar University to dissect the narrative, historical context, and literary significance of the book. The event saw active participation from several individuals, including Parvez Mosharraf, Syed Salman Hasan, Anwar Hossain, Sifat Arefin, Maria Murad, Arunima Pal, and Sifat Ahmed.
During the session, participants shared their perspectives on the novel and its depiction of a turbulent era in the nation's history. Sharing insights on the thematic depth of the book, Parvez Mosharraf remarked, ‘Ar Koto Din’ pordle muktijuddher somoykar sadharon manushher jibon o manoshik obosthake kach theke onubhob kora jay. Building upon the discussion, Syed Salman Hasan highlighted the importance of remembering cultural icons through active engagement with their literature. Tar shahitya amader shudhu ekti somoyer golpo bole na, borong shei somoyer manush, shomaj o shopner shonge porichoy koriye dey. Zahir Raihan, whose birth anniversary was commemorated during this gathering, was born on August 19, 1935.
