A severe controversy has erupted surrounding the traditional Sri Satyanarayan Sheba Mandir, also known as the Ramthakur Mandir, located in Dingamani under Naria upazila of Shariatpur district. Last Thursday, several old and vulnerable structures situated within the revered temple premises were completely torn down, initiating a sharp division of opinion between the governing temple committee and devoted followers of the shrine.

The religious site boasts a long and deeply rooted history spanning four hundred years, making the recent demolition a matter of profound emotional and cultural significance for the local population. According to the statements provided by Mukul Chandra Ray, various sections of the temple complex had grown extremely old over the passage of time and consequently become hazardous and risky. As part of a comprehensive initiative to completely rebuild the temple, authorities proceeded to dismantle the Sri Ramthakur room, the Nag Mandir, and the Bhog room.

However, the sudden razing of these historic buildings has drawn strong opposition and sorrow from several members of the community and devotees. Haradhan Chakraborty voiced deep discontent regarding the operation, stating that demolishing the three buildings was entirely improper because they serve as cherished memories and relics from the time of Thakur. Echoing similar sentiments, Shilpi Rani Chakraborty explained that the location was formerly the residence of Thakur himself, where he used to live and meditate, adding that numerous individuals had actively attempted to preserve and protect this historic house.

Adding to the administrative confusion surrounding the incident, Trinath Ghosh pointed out that many members of the temple committee were completely unaware of the demolition work taking place. The lack of transparency and prior consultation has intensified the ongoing dispute among the stakeholders who are deeply invested in the preservation of the temple's architectural and spiritual heritage.

In response to the unfolding situation and the tension generated by the destruction of the historic structures, Tahsina বেগম addressed the matter by assuring that she would inquire into who is demolishing the temple or any part of it, along with the specific reasons behind the actions. Furthermore, she confirmed that if any untoward or unexpected incidents have occurred at the location, she will personally look into the matter to address the concerns raised by the aggrieved devotees.
