Heavy rainfall has caused severe flash floods and landslides, significantly disrupting road communication across the Khagrachhari region, particularly affecting Dighinala and Sajek. According to confirmed reports from the area, the extreme weather event was driven by a sudden and intense downpour that lashed the district.

Meteorological data recorded by local observation authorities shows that 103 millimeters of rain fell within a span of just three hours, specifically between midnight and 3:00 AM. Officials noted that such a high volume of rainfall in such a short period has not been recorded earlier in the current season.

The relentless downpour resulted in immediate environmental impacts, most notably along major transit routes. The Khagrachhari-Dighinala road suffered landslides at two separate sections, bringing vehicular movement to a halt and severing the vital road communication link with Sajek.

In addition to landslides, the heavy precipitation caused water levels in local waterways to rise dangerously. Both the Chengmi and Maini rivers crossed their respective danger marks, inundating several low-lying localities including Merung, Kabakhali, Hamtali, and Beyolkhali in Dighinala.

Local residents expressed shock at the suddenness and severity of the weather. Anwar Hossain described waking up to find water inside his home, noting that floodwaters had managed to submerge their living space despite avoiding inundation during the floods at the beginning of the previous month. Another resident, Onlendu Tripura, remarked that conditions appeared entirely normal the previous night with very little water in the surrounding hilly streams, adding that he had not witnessed such intense rainfall all year.
