Health Advice Issued in Bangladesh on Preventing AC-Induced Coughs
Experts in Bangladesh share essential health advice on preventing colds and coughs linked to air conditioner usage. Proper maintenance and temperature settings are recommended to reduce respiratory and allergy risks.

Air conditioners do not directly create cold or cough viruses, but improper use and a lack of proper maintenance significantly increase the risk of illness among users in Bangladesh. As households and offices increasingly rely on cooling systems to combat the heat, health experts have issued comprehensive advice regarding the safe operation of these appliances to protect daily well-being.
A primary concern with neglected cooling units lies within their internal mechanisms. Filters inside air conditioners accumulate dust, bacteria, fungus, and mites over time, which can then spread into the room environment and cause respiratory or allergy problems for occupants who breathe in the contaminated air.
Furthermore, cooling systems inherently remove excess moisture from room air, making the indoor air exceptionally dry. This dry air can dry out the delicate mucous membranes in the nose and throat, which subsequently and temporarily reduces the body's natural immunity against airborne irritants.
To mitigate these health risks, experts advise maintaining air conditioner filters regularly. Specifically, filters should be cleaned or serviced at least once every two months to prevent the hazardous accumulation of dust, bacteria, fungus, and mites.
In addition to routine filter maintenance, users are encouraged to carefully manage their indoor climate controls. Keeping room temperatures regulated between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius helps prevent the health issues associated with extreme temperature drops and excessively dry indoor conditions.
