Habiganj Road Repair Stalls, Leaving Commuters Stranded in Distress

The condition of the important Bullabazar-Singgram road in the Lakhai upazila of Habiganj has deteriorated significantly, causing immense suffering for the local population who rely on the route for daily transit. The vulnerable state of the thoroughfare, combined with unfinished construction work, has severely disrupted normal traffic movement throughout the area.

The troubled infrastructure project involves an 800-meter long section of the Bullabazar-Singgram road, where the original carpeting and pitch have completely worn away, resulting in the formation of large, dangerous potholes. Commuters navigating this damaged route face extreme physical discomfort, transforming a routine journey into a hazardous endeavor.

Official records show that the rehabilitation initiative commenced in February of this year with an allocated budget of 3 million Bangladeshi Taka. The contract for the infrastructure development was awarded to a local construction firm named Khadiza Enterprise, which undertook the responsibility of restoring the degraded roadway.

Despite the initial start of the project earlier in the year, the scheduled deadline for completion arrived in August with the construction left only partially done. Instead of finishing the repairs, the contracting organization abruptly abandoned the site, leaving the 800-meter stretch in an unpolished and dangerous state.

The abandonment of the project has had an immediate impact on local transportation, causing vehicle movement along the Bullabazar-Singgram route to drop by nearly half. Residents and transport operators now face unprecedented challenges as the incomplete construction project continues to degrade further without active intervention.
