Habiganj Medical College Expels Eight Students Over Hostel Clash
Following a violent clash at Habiganj Medical College's hostel on August 19, authorities have expelled eight students and issued warnings to five others. The disciplinary actions came into effect on August 29 based on a six-member investigation committee's report.
Authorities at Habiganj Medical College have taken strict disciplinary action against multiple students following a violent clash that erupted inside the institution's Hostel-1. The incident, which took place on August 19, created severe chaos and a state of disorder among the student body residing within the residential facilities of the medical college located in Habiganj.
During the altercation, a student named Tafsir Ahmed sustained a severe injury to his eye. Due to the critical nature of the trauma, Ahmed was subsequently transferred to the capital, where he is currently undergoing medical treatment at the National Institute of Ophthalmology in Dhaka.
In the wake of the violence, the institution formed a six-member investigation committee to probe the circumstances surrounding the clash. Acting upon the comprehensive findings and recommendations submitted by the investigation committee, the college's disciplinary committee moved forward with punitive measures against the involved individuals.
A total of eight students have faced severe penalties resulting from the disciplinary review. These individuals have been officially expelled for varying periods from both their academic activities and the campus hostel facilities. Additionally, five other students involved in the broader incident have been formally issued warnings regarding their future conduct.
Providing details on the enforcement of the disciplinary measures, Professor Dr. Mohammad Javed Jillul Bari stated that the administrative orders officially came into effect starting from August 29. Furthermore, Professor Dr. Jillul Bari noted that under existing government guidelines and policies, any students who feel aggrieved by the ruling retain the formal right to submit an appeal to the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Education within thirty days of the order's issuance.
