Groom Dies of Electrocution on Wedding Night in Kushtia

A newly married groom tragically lost his life due to electrocution on his wedding night in Kushtia district. The incident took place on Thursday night, August 20, 2026, in the remote village of Gachherdiar Uttarpara, located within the Hogalbaria union of Daulatpur upazila.

The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Anas. According to the sequence of events confirmed by local reports, the wedding ceremony itself had taken place earlier in the day at noon. Following the nuptials, Anas successfully brought his newlywed bride home to his family residence by the afternoon of the same day.

However, the joyous occasion turned into an unimaginable tragedy later that evening. The family had organized a festive gathering featuring song and dance to celebrate the wedding. While the celebrations were underway, Anas was sitting on a chair positioned right next to a decorative tent or pandal set up for the event.

Amidst the festivities, a stand fan unexpectedly toppled over and fell directly onto Anas while he was seated. The fallen appliance was still operational, and the young groom was instantly electrified through the fan. Family members and wedding guests rushed to his aid and immediately attempted to transport him to a medical facility for urgent care.

Tragically, Anas succumbed to his injuries while en route to Kushtia General Hospital. Local law enforcement authorities were subsequently informed of the sudden and accidental death, which has cast a profound shadow of grief over the local community and the bereaved families.

Confirming the tragic accident to the media, Khaledur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station, formally verified the death of the groom. Meanwhile, poignant memories were shared by those who knew him, including Mohsin Reza, who fondly recalled a recent interaction and expressed deep sorrow over the sudden loss, praying for divine forgiveness for the departed soul.
