Ganges and Gorai water levels may approach warning mark: FFWC

Bangladesh's Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre has issued an advisory indicating that the water levels of both the Ganges and Gorai rivers are expected to rise significantly over the upcoming period. According to the official forecast released on 12 September, this hydrological change could push river levels up to the warning threshold.

Authorities from the forecasting centre specified that the projected rise in water levels is anticipated to manifest within the next 24 to 48 hours. This continuous monitoring highlights the developing weather and river conditions that are currently affecting major waterways in the region.

The anticipated surge in the Ganges and Gorai rivers carries a direct threat to specific geographical zones situated near the riverbanks. Official assessments show that low-lying areas adjacent to these water channels face a distinct possibility of being inundated.

The administrative districts identified as being at risk for this potential flooding include Chapainawabganj, Faridpur, Rajbari, and Magura. Residents and local authorities in these specific districts have been alerted to the developing situation regarding the encroaching river waters.

Although the projected inundation is currently categorized as temporary, the potential for localized displacement and disruption in the affected low-lying communities remains a concern. The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre continues to observe the progression of the water levels as the 24 to 48-hour window unfolds.
