Five Arrested in Lohagara Over August 21 Grenade Attack Day Protest

Law enforcement authorities in Lohagara upazila, Bangladesh, have arrested five individuals following allegations of a protest procession held to mark the anniversary of the August 21 grenade attack. The arrests were confirmed following a police operation in the area, targeting suspects connected to the ruling party's associated organizations.
The legal proceedings initiated against the suspects stem from a formal complaint filed at the Lohagara Police Station. The case, registered under case number 17, was brought forward by Zahidul Alam Jhunu, a local leader affiliated with the Sromik Dal organization. According to the police records, the filed complaint explicitly names 17 specific individuals.
In addition to the 17 named suspects, the First Information Report further implicates an estimated 20 to 25 unidentified individuals as defendants in the ongoing criminal matter. The charges connect the gathered accused to the contentious protest march organized in observance of the historical grenade attack commemoration date.
Among the documented individuals facing allegations in the police case are several members belonging to the Chhatra League and Jubo League organizations. The specific demographic details noted in the official records include Sheikh Sagir Uddin Sonet, who is 28 years old, and Abdul Kader Sheikh, recorded at 31 years of age.
Further identified individuals listed in the police documentation comprise Alami Fakir, aged 32, Zillur Rahman, aged 56, and Ujjal Mollah, whose age is documented as 38 years old. The roster of named respondents in the formal police complaint also features Babul Munshi, Riyajul Member, Tarikul Khan, Ohid কাজী, Rahul Sheikh, Farid Member, Sadar Uddin Shamim, and Abdur Rahman.
Following the formal registration of the case at the Lohagara police station, law enforcement officers conducted targeted operations to apprehend the accused. As a result of these police actions, five individuals have been successfully arrested so far, while investigations and efforts to locate the remaining named and unnamed suspects continue.
