Ferry Kopotaksho stuck on shoal for nine hours in Chattogram-Sandwip channel
Ferry Kopotaksho remained stranded on a shoal in the Chattogram-Sandwip channel for roughly nine hours on Wednesday. The vessel, carrying nearly 250 passengers and an ambulance with a sick patient, finally reached the Bashbaria ferry terminal at 4:15 AM.
On Wednesday evening, a maritime disruption occurred in the Chattogram-Sandwip channel as the vessel known as Ferry Kopotaksho became immobilized on an underwater shoal. According to the verified details, the ferry had departed from Sandwip at approximately 6:00 PM, heading towards its intended destination of Bashbaria in Sitakunda. However, the journey was abruptly halted when the vessel ran aground on the submerged shoal shortly after setting off.
The vessel was carrying a significant number of individuals on board at the time of the incident. Official reports confirm that approximately 250 passengers were aboard Ferry Kopotaksho during the voyage. In addition to the large crowd of travelers, the ferry was also transporting critical cargo, including an ambulance carrying a sick patient who required timely transportation across the waterway.
The primary cause of the extended delay was attributed to natural tidal conditions in the channel. Due to an ebb tide, the water level dropped significantly, preventing the stranded ferry from maneuvering off the shoal. Consequently, the vessel and all its occupants remained stuck in the middle of the waterway for a prolonged period, lasting nearly nine hours as passengers and the sick patient waited for the water levels to rise.
The ordeal eventually came to an end during the early hours of the morning following the drop in the tide. The maritime situation was managed as water levels shifted, allowing the vessel to break free from the underwater obstacle. Ferry Kopotaksho successfully resumed its journey and finally arrived at the Bashbaria ferry terminal at roughly 4:15 AM, concluding the lengthy and stressful maritime disruption.
