Health officials in the Feni district of Bangladesh have reported a concerning upward trend in dengue fever cases as the region confronts a sharp rise in infections throughout the month of August. According to official data released by the local health administration, the viral infection has steadily accelerated over the past several weeks, compounding public health concerns across the affected communities in the district.

Statistical records from the local health department indicate that the number of identified dengue patients stood at 72 during the month of July. However, that figure climbed significantly to 115 confirmed cases by August 27, illustrating a clear acceleration in transmission rates that has placed renewed pressure on local medical infrastructure and healthcare providers.

Patients suffering from the mosquito-borne illness are primarily receiving their medical treatment at the Feni 250-bed General Hospital. Addressing the influx of patients, Dr. Mobarak Hossain Dulal assured the public that necessary medical supplies remain adequate, stating that there is a sufficient stock of essential testing kits, including NS-1 diagnostics, alongside ongoing procurement processes to ensure no shortages arise in testing or patient care.

Despite the assurances from health officials, local residents have expressed frustration regarding the municipal response to the outbreak. Highlighting the perceived shortcomings in public services, local resident Atikur Rahman remarked, "Even living within the municipality, we are receiving fewer civic facilities. Although the outbreak of dengue is increasing, the work of spraying medicine or awareness-raising is rarely visible."

In response to the mounting criticism and the escalating health situation, the Feni municipality has initiated targeted interventions across the urban area. Md. Didarul Alam outlined the scope of the municipality's response, explaining that a special cleanliness and mosquito eradication program is currently underway across all 18 wards of the municipality, spanning a total duration of 36 days with two dedicated days allocated for each ward. Furthermore, Alam emphasized that public awareness has no alternative in controlling mosquitoes, noting that regular loudspeaker announcements are being conducted to educate residents.
