Father Drowns in Kaptai Lake After Saving Child
A father in Longadu Upazila drowned in Kaptai Lake after successfully rescuing his child from the water. His body was recovered by fire service personnel following a search operation lasting nearly 16 hours.

A tragic incident unfolded in Longadu Upazila as a devoted father lost his life in Kaptai Lake immediately after managing to save his own child. The victim has been identified as Falan Mia, a resident of Choto Mahilya village within the Gulshakhali Union of Longadu Upazila. According to local reports, Falan Mia is the son of Md. Shahabuddin.
The sequence of events began when the father and child encountered peril in the waters of Kaptai Lake. Demonstrating immense bravery, Falan Mia focused entirely on the safety of his offspring, successfully lifting the child out of the water to safety. However, immediately after ensuring his child was out of danger, Falan Mia himself became submerged in the lake water and went missing beneath the surface.
Following the sudden disappearance, a search and rescue operation was launched in the area. Fire service personnel were deployed to locate the missing father in the vast expanse of Kaptai Lake. The grueling search operation continued for an extended period, spanning roughly 16 hours as rescue workers scoured the waters for any sign of the missing man.
The operation ultimately concluded on Monday morning when members of the fire service successfully recovered the lifeless body of Falan Mia from Kaptai Lake. The recovery brought a tragic end to the overnight search, confirming the worst fears of the victim's family and the local community who had been anxiously awaiting news since he first went missing.
Following the recovery of the body, necessary legal procedures were promptly carried out by the authorities. Md. Zakaria Hossain, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Longadu Police Station, confirmed that once all required legal processes were fully completed, the body of Falan Mia was officially handed over to his grieving family members.
