On August 25, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury traveled to Sunamganj for an official visit. The primary purpose of his trip was to address the critical issues surrounding safe migration and to strategize on ways to effectively stop illegal foreign travel from the region. These discussions took center stage during a high-level interactive meeting held on Tuesday afternoon at the official conference room of the Sunamganj District Administration.
During the proceedings at the Sunamganj District Administration conference room, Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury formally announced a major developmental initiative for the local population. He detailed plans to construct a total of five training centers, strategically located across each of the five electoral areas within the Sunamganj district, aimed at enhancing the skills of prospective workers.
In a decisive move regarding law enforcement and accountability, Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury issued a direct directive to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Sylhet Range and the Superintendent of Police for Sunamganj. He instructed them to compile and submit comprehensive details regarding the individuals who are accused in cases filed by the families of victims, as well as the associated trafficking syndicates, to the Ministry within a strict timeframe of seven days.
Highlighting significant international developments in the employment sector, Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury shared encouraging news regarding labor migration to Southeast Asia. He stated during the meetings that the government of Malaysia has expressed a formal interest in recruiting ten thousand skilled workers from Bangladesh without any financial cost to the employees.
The collaborative meetings in Sunamganj brought together key administrative figures, including Mohammad Minhazur Rahman, alongside local political figures affiliated with the BNP, to address both domestic accountability and foreign employment opportunities.
