The fugitive, identified as Mitu Aktar, was tracked down and apprehended in the Keraniganj area near Dhaka following a coordinated police operation.
According to official reports, the arrest took place at approximately midnight on Friday, August 28, 2026. Mitu Aktar had previously been taken into custody in connection with a murder case filed at the Jatrabari police station, where she was undergoing a court-ordered three-day interrogation under police remand.
The dramatic escape occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 27, when Mitu Aktar managed to break out of the Jatrabari police station lockup under circumstances that prompted an immediate search by local authorities. Her sudden disappearance from the secure holding facility sparked intense efforts by law enforcement teams to locate her whereabouts.
Following the midnight operation in Keraniganj, authorities confirmed the successful conclusion of the manhunt. A B Siddique, commenting on the operation, stated, "Mitu has been arrested from Keraniganj." With her recapture, the suspect is expected to face further legal proceedings regarding both the original murder charges and her escape from custody.
