Drive launched to clear illegal structures in Comilla's Suagazi Bazar
Authorities have launched a joint eviction drive to reclaim Roads and Highways Department land in Comilla's Sadar South upazila. Around three hundred illegal structures built over the past twenty-five years were removed on the first day.
A joint eviction drive has been launched to remove illegal structures built on land belonging to the Roads and Highways Department at Suagazi Bazar in Sadar South upazila of Comilla district. The coordinated operation, which began on Tuesday, targets unauthorized encroachments along the vital Dhaka-Chittagong highway corridor where these structures had stood for approximately twenty-five years.
The comprehensive operation is being conducted jointly by the Roads and Highways Department and the district administration. According to officials, the campaign aims to restore public land that has remained unlawfully occupied for decades, ensuring smoother communication and transport along the busy regional route surrounding the Suagazi Bazar area.
During the initial phase of the operation on Tuesday, approximately three hundred illegal structures were successfully demolished and cleared from the site. Authorities have confirmed that a total of five hundred illegal structures have been identified for removal, indicating that further enforcement actions will follow in subsequent phases.
Mohammad Adnan Ibn Hasan explained the background of the enforcement action, stating that individuals who constructed illegal structures on the department's land had been served notices in advance. Because many occupants failed to remove their structures despite prior warnings, authorities initiated this regular eviction campaign to clear the occupied property.
Emphasizing the continuation of the crackdown, Mohammad Adnan Ibn Hasan added that roughly three hundred structures were taken down on the very first day and that all identified illegal constructions will be dismantled in due course. He also noted that necessary measures will be implemented to prevent the reclaimed government land from being occupied again.
Reinforcing the inter-agency commitment to the project, Sujan Chandra Roy stated that the district administration and the road division are jointly executing the operation to recover the occupied property of the road department. He affirmed that the government drive will continue persistently until all public land is completely freed from unauthorized occupation.
