DPDC Fines Four Battery-Run Rickshaw Garages in Narayanganj Drive

The Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) has conducted a significant enforcement operation targeting unauthorized power connections in Narayanganj. The drive specifically focused on battery-run rickshaw garages located within the Siddhirganj areas of CI Khola, Batanpara, and Godnail Chowdhurybari. According to official reports, the operation was executed by the Siddhirganj NOCS office of the DPDC to crack down on rampant energy malpractice and the widespread misuse of electricity across the designated zones.

During the coordinated inspections, officials uncovered multiple serious infractions involving the local power grid. Investigators found definitive evidence of electricity theft, alongside instances where a single electricity meter was illegally being used to supply power to multiple commercial establishments. Furthermore, the inspections revealed that operators were consuming electricity significantly in excess of their officially approved load capacities, placing an undue burden on the local distribution network.

As a direct consequence of these discovered violations, the DPDC inspection team took immediate administrative and technical action on site. The authorities severed all illegal and excessive electricity connections linked to the offending establishments to prevent further unauthorized power consumption. In addition to disconnecting the lines, the operation resulted in four distinct battery-run rickshaw garages being hit with financial penalties, accumulating a total of four hundred thousand taka in fines.

The operation was overseen and supported by a mobilized team of officials representing the utility provider. Among the key personnel associated with the administrative actions and field operations in Siddhirganj were Tarif Al Tawhid, Md. Masudur Rahman, Md. Rahul, Md. Jahangir Alam, Md. Sanwar Hossain, and Md. Oliullah, who collectively coordinated the enforcement measures across the targeted neighborhoods.

Addressing the broader context of the crackdown, Tarif Al Tawhid emphasized that the utility provider maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward energy infractions. He stated that regular operations will continue to be conducted specifically targeting battery-run rickshaw garages to systematically prevent the wastage, misuse, and unauthorized consumption of electricity. Tawhid further warned that wherever irregularities are detected by monitoring teams, strict punitive measures and legal actions will be enforced without exception.
